Principal Scientist in in-vitro Neuroscience Sygnature Discovery

Tatiana’s commercial work has focused on topics such as mitochondrial deregulation, biomarkers, neuro-inflammation, and lysosomal function in different in-vitro models of neuro-degenerative disorders. Neuroscientist by training, Tatiana has also worked with focus on transcription deregulation and autophagy in neuro degenerative diseases, such as Huntington’s Disease and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, and Schizophrenia. Tatiana has co-authored more than 30 publications (h-index: 22, i10-index: 29, citations: 1741) and supervised more than 20 undergrad, MSc and PhD students.

Continuing its ‘Women in Science’ series of interviews in 24/7 Biopharma, we conducted an in-depth discussion with Tatiana Rosenstock, Principal Scientist in in-vitro Neuroscience at Sygnature Discovery, who has made significant contributions to the field of Neuroscience for more than 20 years. To what do you attribute the growth and increased focus on STEM? I believe the growth and increased focus on STEM can be attributed to greater exposure and awareness of its importance in today’s world.

our daily lives, there is a growing recognition of the need for skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Additionally, industries are increasingly seeking professionals with these skills, which has further emphasised the value of STEM education and careers. This shift is also supported by governments, educational institutions and organisations that have prioritised STEM programs to prepare future generations for the demands of a rapidly-evolving job market. Have you faced any obstacles within the pharmaceutical industry that were directly related to being a woman? Overall, I would say no. But there

were moments in my life where less qualified individuals were given opportunities that I was more suited for. Looking back, it’s likely that gender discrimination played a role, despite my expertise, experience and qualifications. While there are times when we can challenge these biases, there are also instances where, for the sake of mental well-being, you have to let go and continue to focus on doing your best, regardless of the circumstances.
